About the Narrowboats

The Leisure & Amenities Fund owns 3 narrowboats available to hire by current Service Personnel, former Service personnel and civilians currently working within HMNB Portsmouth.  The narrowboats can be used for leisure trips with family and friends, or as a team building activity.

The narrowboats, EMMA, ANDREW & TRAFALGAR are all 8 berth boats. The boats are based at Napton Junction, Warwickshire, which allows travel along the Grand Union and Oxford Canals.

All 3 narrowboats are available to book for 3, 4 or 7 nights:

  1. Weekend - Friday to Monday (3 nights)
  2. Mid-Week - Monday to Friday (4 nights)
  3. Full Week - bookings can start on a Sunday, Monday or Friday (7 or 14 Nights).
  4. Please contact the LAF Office for any requests for longer stays.

Bedrooms

Narrowboats EMMA & ANDREW both have 6 single bunk beds, and Narrowboat TRAFLAGAR has 4 single bunk beds and one small double bed.

On both boats, the dining table can be converted to another double bed if required.

Kitchen

The narrowboats all have a fully functional kitchen, including gas oven, 4 ring hob, and an undercounter fridge with a small freezer compartment.

Everything is provided included crockery, cutlery, pots & pans.

Cruising

You do not need any previous experience or qualifications to hire one of our narrowboats. The crew at the Boatyard will give you a full handover to get you underway.

The crew will take you through a lock and stay with you until you are comfortable. Additional guides and tips will be forwarded to you ahead of your trip, and Waterway guides are available on all of our narrowboats so you can plan your route.
