Availability & Booking Process

To book one of our Narrowboats, please select the desired boat from the dropdown menu, then pick your preferred date and the length of your stay.

Please complete the Booking Form and confirm your eligibility. A booking deposit of £100 is necessary to secure your reservation.

Once submitted, a member of the LAF Team will review your booking and will be in touch to confirm approval. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, your booking deposit will be returned.

LAF Narrowboats are available to book for 3, 4 or 7 nights:

  1. Weekend - Friday to Monday (3 nights)
  2. Mid-Week - Monday to Friday (4 nights)
  3. Full Week - Starting days are Friday, Sunday or Monday (7 or 14 Nights)

Discounts are available for selected mid-week bookings for RN personnel organising team-building for their department or unit. For more information and to obtain a discount code, please contact the LAF office.

Eligibility

Bookings will be allocated on the eligibility criteria set out below:

  1. Priority will go in the first instance to Serving Personnel who are permanently based in HMNB Portsmouth, HMS Nelson and on-board Portsmouth based HM Ships and other RN establishments.
  2. Tri-service, Veterans and civilian LAF Pass holders are welcome to book, excluding the following periods (unless surplus dates are available as per para 5 below):
      1. 24th May - 3rd June
      2. 15th July - 2nd September
      3. 25th October - 4th November 
  3. Civil Service personnel who work within HMNB Portsmouth or other RN establishments are also eligible to make a booking, excluding the dates detailed in Para. 2.
  4. Civilian contractors working within HMNB Portsmouth only are eligible to make a booking, excluding the dates detailed in Para. 2.
  5. Personnel will be restricted to one weekend booking per year; unless surplus dates are available as per para 5 below.
  6. Any surplus dates will be released 6 weeks prior to the arrival date.

Booking Conditions

Payment Terms:

Deposit

A security deposit of £100 is required at the time of booking. This amount is separate from the hire fee and will be refunded to you following your Narrowboat cruise.

First payment

A payment of 50% of the total hire fee is required 12 weeks prior to the commencement of your hire period.

Remaining Balance

The outstanding balance is required to be settled in full six weeks before the hire date; failure to do so will result in us reserving the right to cancel your reservation.

Hire Charge

The hire charge covers the expenses for handover instruction, turnaround cleaning, toilet pump-outs, gas, and mooring fees. Not included is bedding and the cost of fuel. Bedding can be pre-booked via the Boatyard directly.

Pets

Pets are permitted, however, an extra cleaning fee of £30 will be incurred. Any damage to the narrowboat, fixtures, or fittings will result in charges to the hirer.

Cancellation Policy

Should you need to cancel your booking, refunds are processed in accordance with the timeframes below:

We recognise that the demands of the Service can lead to changes in plans. Should you need to cancel or modify your booking due to the Service's requirements, please reach out to the LAF Office to discuss your options.


Teambuilding Discount

Applicants for a team-building discount must submit a supporting letter from their Commanding Officer to verify that the booking is an authorised team-building activity.
